The new province will be called Nunavut and govt positions will be filled primarily with Inuit -- aka Eskimos. This land area is considerably larger than Alaska and about 2/3 of it is north of the Arctic Circle. Of primary concern right now is economic function. The Inuit have had to learn the concept of money, which is relatively new to their culture. They used to barter and share everything. In addition, industry and business have not thrived in the past, so this, too, is cause for trepidation. What will happen in Nunavut in 1999?
